Origin Story

Want to hear the origin story of 100 WWC Juneau?

Iola was in Homer in mid-September when her longtime friend, Debi, told her about this great organization that she belonged to. It took Debi less than five minutes to describe the concept, the Homer guiding practices, and the amount of impact they have had in the community before Iola was bowled over! She self-describes as, "not a joiner" but she loves being around dynamic women who Get Things Done! Iola had a chance to talk with Patrice who started the Homer 100WWC less than two years ago with just 23 members. At each quarterly meeting the Homer chapter asked everyone present to bring a friend to the next meeting and they now number 108 members. More than the money ($70,000) that they have contributed to their small community, they are growing and teaching philanthropy--bringing in young women with busy lives, jobs, and kids along with retirees with a long history of community building AND everyone in-between!

Iola brought this information back to her friends in Juneau, including Jane and Namoi.  After Iola answered questions and shared web links from 100 Women Who Care organizations in Alaska and the country, Jane realized that this group had the potential to make a real difference in a community that she cares about through grass roots participation, efficiently and with enthusiasm.

On October 2, 2019, four women sat down for two hours and agreed to make 100 Women Who Care Juneau a reality.
And it's taken off like wildfire! More than 35 women have said "YES! Let's make this happen."

Between now and the 100WWC Juneau's first meeting this "Hamilton" song will be playing in Iola's head:
Oh, I've got to be in
The room where it happens
The room where it happens!

So please send in the commitment form and we'll see you in The Hangar Ballroom in January making things happen!

P.S. Fairbanks started their group a few years ago. They just passed the $200,000 mark in donations to local non-profits. Yes, that's two hundred THOUSAND dollars that stayed in the community supporting projects that make their city better for everyone!
